On November 20, a crowd of excited community members gathered in downtown Fort Mill for the highly anticipated unveiling of the town’s newest public mural. For weeks prior, anyone strolling through the area likely noticed local artist Debbie Whitsett high above the ground on an aerial lift bringing the massive artwork to life one brushstroke at a time.

What began as a simple sketch slowly transformed before the community’s eyes. First came the sky, then hints of peaches, and soon curiosity spread throughout Fort Mill as residents eagerly tried to guess what the final image would be.

At last, the completed mural was revealed: a stunning, sun-kissed peach orchard paired with a bright bluebird, a powerful tribute to Fort Mill’s rich agricultural roots and the natural beauty that surrounds it. The imagery invites reflection on the generations who built their lives on this land, thoughtfully connecting who we once were with who we are becoming—a town that honors its heritage while embracing creativity, growth, and a vibrant downtown future.
This beautiful addition to the community was made possible through the vision and support of Fort Mill Economic Partners (FMEP), a collective of corporations, organizations, and nonprofits committed to making meaningful and lasting change in the area. As Elizabeth Bowers, Chair of FMEP, shared, this mural is just one of many ways the group is investing in Fort Mill’s future. In partnership with the Town of Fort Mill, the unveiling marks another exciting step forward in bringing local art to the heart of downtown.
The mural is located to the left of the Fort Mill History Museum on Clebourne Street, making it an easy and inspiring stop during any downtown visit.
Next time you’re exploring downtown, be sure to swing by, snap a photo, and help spread the love for Fort Mill’s growing public art scene.
