More about the developer Whitley Adkins

Whitley Adkins’ family has been in Fort Mill since the 1850’s. Her grandfather, Richard “Dick” Adkins owned and operated the Easy Pay Store for 43 years, on the corner of Main Street and Confederate St. where The Improper Pig is now located. He served on the school board for 17 years, and her Grandmother was a teacher. They sold part of their cotton farm land to the country to develop the middle school and elementary school on Pleasant Rd. Whitley and her boys spend a lot of time at her deceased father’s home, across the street from the schools. She developed Adkins Nature Retreat in 2023 as a way to share the tranquility of the family homestead with others in the community.
